Treat Your Sunburn the Healthy Way

ZOE-MILAN-STUDIOS, MICROBLADING, EYEBROWS, EYEBROW-MAKEUP, PERMANENT-MAKEUP, ZOE-MILAN, ZOE-GILLESPIE,5Nobody loves sunshine like Floridians do. Despite all that we’ve heard about high UV indexes and the importance of blocking out the sun’s harmful rays with high doses of SPF, sunburns happen. Gear up for summer with these pro tips on hiding tan lines, concealing a vibrant burn, and easing the pain of too much time spent under the sun.

After a sunburn, your first order of business is typically to reduce pain. Dermatologist Dr. Tsippora Shainhouse recommends taking an anti-inflammatory, like ibuprofen or aspirin, as soon as you realize you are burnt. Take one every six hours thereafter. An anti-inflammatory will not only reduce pain, but can actually help with redness as well.

To help red and inflamed skin, Dr. Shainhouse recommends applying a thin layer of hydrocortisone cream two to three times a day, followed by a cool compress, and chilled aloe vera gel. For a cheap and natural compress, Dr. Shainehouse recommends, “Boil up a kettle of water and pour it into a bowl with two to four tea bags. Black tea works best, but green tea can help too. Let it steep and cool.” Apply this liquid to the sunburned area.

With the pain under control, focus your attention on reducing peeling. “Oce the healing skin starts to shed, use a gentle moisturizer,” Dr. Shainhouse recommends. “Consider ingredients like coconut and Shea butter to moisturize and ingredients like ceramides to help repair the broken skin barrier.” Unless you have hypersensitive skin, exfoliating is also recommended to help speed up the peeling process.

Though covering up your burn might not be your primary concern, it can certainly help keep your confidence up after too much sun exposure. Applying a moisturizer before makeup is of utmost importance, then apply sheer lightweight layers of makeup to prevent a cakey look.

“To downplay a sunburn, pick a yellow toned-foundation,” said Sonia Kashuk, makeup artist and beauty entrepreneur. Kashuk also suggests applying a darker shade of high coverage foundation and bronzer to blend the red tones of your skin with the yellow tones of the makeup. You can use similar techniques on other areas of your body to reduce the appearance of redness.

Remember that avoiding burns is not just important to your appearance, but is crucial to your health. In the summer months especially, apply a high SPF sunscreen at regular intervals and shade yourself when necessary to avoid sunburns and achieve a healthy, bronzed glow. Natural, Bright Makeup Looks are Here for Summer

ZOE-MILAN-STUDIOS, MICROBLADING, EYEBROWS, EYEBROW-MAKEUP, PERMANENT-MAKEUP, ZOE-MILAN, ZOE-GILLESPIE,1The latest eye makeup trends are taking us back to the basics. Thicker brows mean less frequent brow grooming, and bright, open eyes mean ditching the eyeliner. Kristen Fisher, the Director of Sydney’s premier eyebrow salon Kristen Fisher Eyebrows, shed some light on how she keeps her celebrity clients looking fresh and trendy.

Fisher’s most important tip for those in search of the perfect brow look is to let your brows grow. “Growing out your brows takes patience, but in most cases, it is definitely worth it,” she said. “You end up with a fuller, bushier brow which gives your brow artist a lot more room to move when shaping your brows.” As you allow your brows to grow, Fisher recommends filling them in with a brow powder and applying concealer below the brow to cover up any stray hairs.

One benefit to letting your brows grow out is that their natural shape will emerge. Though bold, Cara Delevigne-style brows are all the rage right now, Fisher warns that not every face was made to sport such big brows. Most of us simply look our best when we adhere to our natural brow shape, and a professional brow artist can help shape your brows in a way that are most suitable for your facial structure and size.

If you’ve tried letting your brows grow, but have achieved the look you desire, Fisher suggests opting for a semi-permanent fix, like microblading. Microblading, according to Fisher looks very natural and is a virtually pain-free process. “This is where we use a hypo-allergenic pigment and a super fine blade to create fine, hair-like strokes, which mimic your own hairs to create a fuller brow that won’t wash off,” she said.

ZOE-MILAN-STUDIOS, MICROBLADING, EYEBROWS, EYEBROW-MAKEUP, PERMANENT-MAKEUP, ZOE-MILAN, ZOE-GILLESPIE, 3Fisher thinks the best way to accentuate a well-groomed pair of brows, is by opening up the eyes beneath the brows. One way to make your eyes appear more open and bright is a lash lift. “We lift the lashes from the root using a silicone pad so we get as much lift as possible. We tint them so they are super dark as well—you won’t need to wear makeup after this treatment,” Fisher said.

Heavy-handed contoured looks have been replaced by natural, barely-there makeup, and a thick, lifted lash will help you avoid extra makeup. In addition to lifting the lashes, Fisher suggests going without eyeliner or using a lighter shade than normal to create an even brighter and more natural eye look. How to Create Zendaya’s A-List Brow Look

ZOE-MILAN-STUDIOS, MICROBLADING, EYEBROWS, EYEBROW-MAKEUP, PERMANENT-MAKEUP, ZOE-MILAN, ZOE-GILLESPIE-5Allan Avendaño is a celebrity makeup artist who has worked with some of today’s hottest stars, like Gigi Hadid and Sarah Hyland. Avendaño confessed that singer Zendaya has had a serious impact on the way he does his clients’ brows.

Zendaya and Avendaño have worked together for more than five years. Their relationship is made stronger by the fact that he understands and supports the singer’s constantly changing style and beauty choices. “People feel like they’re growing with her,” Avendaño said. “Her fans are growing with her. She’s setting trends for people her age.”

Avendaño said Zendaya is confident and comfortable playing around with makeup, because she knows she can achieve unique looks that will both make a statement and inspire her fans. Zendaya has gotten so talented and confident in her technique, that she even does her own makeup for red carpet events now, according to Avendaño.

Though the young star is talented in all facets of beauty, Avendaño says it is her brows that really set her look apart. “She’s known as a brow queen,” he added.

The makeup artist, who also works with Bella Thorne and Ashley Madekwe, shared some inside tips and tricks for achieving Zendaya’s signature brow look. Avendaño suggests that you first and foremost understand the shape of your eyes. Knowing whether you eyes are oval, almond, or any shape in between, will help you to determine where your brows should start and where they should end. This is part of the process Zendaya has mastered.

The singer uses both pencils and powders to achieve her full, bold brow look. “She taught me how to create the shape with a really fine-point brow pencil and draw little swipes to mimic the look of hair,” Avendaño said. Then, use the powder to fill in any spots that still look bare. Zendaya coats her brow with a wax before using a spoolie to set everything in place.ZOE-MILAN-STUDIOS, MICROBLADING, EYEBROWS, EYEBROW-MAKEUP, PERMANENT-MAKEUP, ZOE-MILAN, ZOE-GILLESPIE-6

The star’s final step is to emphasize the arches of her brows with a tinted brow gel. “It’ll coat the hairs with a hint of darkness, so it makes things look fuller but not overpowering,” Avendaño said.

Zendaya acknowledges that she is not the only young celebrity playing with makeup and trying different techniques. She hopes that her changing style and bold looks encourage her fans to try whatever they feel looks best on them. For more information on the microblading services available at Zoe Milan Studios, visit today! Pro Tips for Achieving Your Best Brows

It seems like thick, bold brows are here to stay. The trend that has trickled down from the fashion industry to do-it-yourselfers is prompting companies to flood the cosmetic industry with new and improved brow products, ranging from high-end to drug store quality.PERMANENT-MAKEUP, ZOE-MILAN, ZOE-GILLESPIE-1

The look can be tricky to pull off, but with help from some of the best makeup professionals in the world, dive into the world of bold brows.

Brett Freedman, celebrity makeup artist, shed some light on the biggest mistake he sees in DIY brow enhancement. “Fuller brows feel younger and fresher. The biggest mistake gals make is taking too much from the arch and then, in an effort to make the arch bigger, go too far in toward the front of the brow,” he said. Freedman has groomed brows of stars like Brooke Shields, Taylor Swift, Britney Spears, Camilla Belle, and Reba McEntire. He recently launched his own line of tweezers, pencils, and gels, available through Sephora.

If you aren’t totally comfortable with shaping brows, Freedman suggests starting by plucking the very obvious hairs “…in between the eyes, the low hairs on the underside of the brow, and the fluttery sprigs that go from end up to temple.” Former Pittsburgh Steelers tight end and brow entrepreneur, Chris Kolodziejki, suggests following this step with a brow stencil. Kolodziejkl said, “Stencils are a great tool if you are unable to freehand the perfect brow.”

Grooming is an important part in achieving your perfect brow look, but the right product can take your brows a long way. The ultimate goal in selecting brow products is finding those that help you to create the most natural-looking brows.

Makeup pros provided their top three suggestions for creating a natural and bold brow. The Glo Professional Brow Kit is a one-stop shop for achieving your best brow. The kit costs $48 and includes four brow pencils, a brow quad, spoolie brush, brow wax, tweezers, a highlighter, and an angled brush. At around $25, the BECCA PERMANENT-MAKEUP, ZOE-MILAN, ZOE-GILLESPIEShadow and Light Brow Contour Mousse includes two shades to both fill in gaps and highlight. The Laser Brow from the Brett Brow Collection is perfect for those in search of a more low-maintenance option; the taupe precision pencil can be used for touching up and defining brows.

From New York City, to the Midwest, the West Coast, and everywhere in between, brow experts are setting up shop to help you achieve your best and boldest brow. If you feel nervous visiting a new brow tech, search for their work on the internet or set up a pre-appointment consultation. Eyebrow Tutorials’ Mesmerizing Power

PERMANENT-MAKEUP, ZOE-MILAN, ZOE-GILLESPIEWhether you follow beauty-related social media accounts or not, you’ve probably seen a clip of brows being filled. Many of us encounter these videos at least once a day, and yet, each time we sit entranced, watching the process with relentless focus. What is it about these videos that hypnotizes brow wizzes and amateurs alike?

Glamour Magazine decided to investigate the addictive prope
rties of brow tutorial videos, reaching out to experts and viewers. The first explanation the researchers came across was the relative novelty of bold, full arches and the techniques used to achieve the look. The trend is still new, and as a result, many women are not totally confident in their techniques. Even those who are confident are always looking for new ways to achieve their best brows. Huda Kattan, a makeup artist and all-around beauty guru, said the still very new trend in brows is at the root of all this curiosity.

A.J. Marsden, an assistant psychology professor at Beacon College in Florida, provided a different explanation. Marsden believes the repetitive motions in the videos soothe viewers, and the short turnover time is reassuring to those hoping to achieve the same look. “Usually the how-tos make the effect look like something that we can easily accomplish in a short period of time. That is, it’s something that all women feel like they can easily achieve,” Marsden said.

So there science and novelty to back up our brow video obsessions, but why don’t we get sick of watching video after video? Perhaps this can be explained by the nearly endless number of brow shapes, hair types, and brow products. Essentially, no two tutorials are alike. “Tutorials may seem repetitive, but having a variety to watch helps the viewer eventually find the one that addresses her personal brow concerns and helps her learn how to fix them,” said Claudia Soare, president of Anastasia Beverly Hills, a beauty company that boasts professional-grade how-to brow videos.ZOE-MILAN-STUDIOS, MICROBLADING, EYEBROWS, EYEBROW-MAKEUP

With each brow video, we fantasize our own brow transformation. And, unlike bikini body transformations or contour makeovers, revamping your brows seems easily attainable and realistic for the everyday person. These videos show us how to achieve our best brows with relative ease and inexpensive techniques.

If you haven’t yet experienced the magical pull of brow videos, check out big name makeup and beauty companies on Instagram, and follow independent beauty bloggers, who often recommend affordable techniques and products for everyday viewers looking to boost their brows. Microblading: The Best Option for Brow Enhancement

ZOE-MILAN-STUDIOS, MICROBLADING, EYEBROWS, EYEBROW-MAKEUP, PERMANENT-MAKEUP, ZOE-MILAN, ZOE-GILLESPIE, 15The latest beauty trend is eyebrow modification. To achieve the perfect, full, bold brow look we see from celebrities, models, and makeup gurus, we turn to pencils, powders, gels, and even permanent solutions to like tattooing.

In the past, permanent makeup has not always been the most natural looking. “You don’t have as much control with a permanent makeup machine because it vibrates, so the strokes are going to be blurrier,” said Piret Aava, a New York City-based eyebrow professional. Instead of traditional permanent makeup application, the most natural looking and long lasting eyebrow enhancement on the market is achieved through a technique called microblading.

Microblading uses a pen-like tool with tiny needles in the head, rather than a traditional permanent makeup machine, to achieve the client’s desired look. The pen gives professionals more control and allows them to achieve better and more natural looking results.

The microblading process begins with a numbing cream, applied to the skin around the eyebrows, to allow for a more pleasant experience. Though the process is not painful, some clients do experience minimal discomfort. Next, the pen-like device is dipped into cosmetic-grade eyebrow dye, which is applied to the skin in fine, hair-like strokes. Though the procedure will differ slightly from artist to artist, Aava recommends clients return four weeks after the initial treatment to fill any gaps and add a second color for added dimension.

With microblading, the end result is a fuller, bolder brow made of subtly defined strokes, not the blended look you achieve by using traditional makeup products.

According to Aava, the microblading process, unlike waxing or threading, doesn’t come with any bad surprises. A professional artist will match the hue of their pigment to the client’s natural brow hair and test the color against the client’s skin tone before following through with the procedure. Before ever picking up a needle, Aava pencils a custom shape, size, and hair pattern onto her clients’ skin and makes adjustments according to a client’s personal preferences.ZOE-MILAN-STUDIOS, MICROBLADING, EYEBROWS, EYEBROW-MAKEUP, PERMANENT-MAKEUP, ZOE-MILAN, ZOE-GILLESPIE, 14

Microblading provides clients with a completely personalized look, applied by a cosmetic professional. The results are long-lasting and appear much more natural than any do-it-yourself technique. The Ins and Outs of Eyebrow Threading

ZOE-MILAN-STUDIOS, MICROBLADING, EYEBROWS, EYEBROW-MAKEUP, PERMANENT-MAKEUP, ZOE-MILAN, ZOE-GILLESPIE,7Sleek, bold brows are the most sought after beauty trend right now. While well-groomed brows can frame your face and enhance your natural features, it is important to find the grooming technique that fits your lifestyle and your personal needs.

One very popular technique is eyebrow threading. Threading dates back to ancient India and involves twisting a cotton thread to remove unwanted hair from the eyebrow region. Many prefer threading to waxing because it is both more precise and lasts longer than eyebrow waxing does.

Before you try threading for the first time, keep these simple tips and insider secrets in mind.

Find the right salon.
Visit a salon that has been recommended to you or has a good reputation in your area. Be sure that the salon will allow you to have a consultation with the technician before committing; this will ensure you get the results you desire from a well-trained professional.

Communicate with the technician.
Before the threading process begins, thoroughly describe what look you are after. Discuss shape, thickness, and color in detail with the technician, and don’t be afraid to ask for their advice. You can even bring in a photo of your “brow idol” to make sure your message is clear.

Be prepared to feel some pain.
Threading is a gentle process. It does not remove any layers of skin or involve any chemicals, and is the least invasive method of eyebrow grooming. Threading is the most recommended option for those with sensitive skin. But, threading does involve some pain. While we all tolerate pain differently, be prepared to experience slight to moderate discomfort during the threading process.

Exfoliate before your appointment.
Exfoliating is a good pre-appointment practice for everyone, but is especially important if you are prone to develop ingrown hair around the brow area. Exfoliating the area before your appointment will make removing any stubborn ingrown hairs much easier and less painful.

Avoid makeup for a few hours.
After your appointment, it is normal to see some redness. Your technician will apply a soothing gel to help reduce redness. Avoid applying makeup to the area for at least a few hours following your appointment, because it can actually irritate the area even more.

Tweeze with caution between appointments.
Plucking on your own between appointments could ruin the brow shape your technician created for you. Try to schedule regular appointments every two to four weeks, depending on your personal rate of hair growth to avoid over-plucking and ruining your brow shape. Leave the Brow Tweezing and Snipping to the Pros

ZOE-MILAN-STUDIOS, MICROBLADING, EYEBROWS, EYEBROW-MAKEUP, PERMANENT-MAKEUP, ZOE-MILAN, ZOE-GILLESPIE, 5There is no confidence booster quite like leaving the salon with freshly groomed, perfectly shaped brows. But, as time passes, and stray hairs begin to sprout, you don’t have to let that perfect shape fade. Though DIY maintenance requires some knowledge and practice, it is your best solution to maintaining your brow shape between appointments.

Benefit Cosmetics’ brow specialist Jared Bailey outlined the most important things to remember between brow grooming appointments.

Schedule appointments strategically.
Many of us rush to schedule an appointment as soon as we notice stray hairs popping up. But, Bailey explains that, because brow hairs (just like all body hair) grows in cycles, it is better to hold off. “Typically there will be between four to eight weeks before hair begins to grow back full-on,” Bailey said. “I typically recommend everyone go for an appointment once per cycle, so typically every five weeks in order to effectively clean up the brows and their shape.”

If you are hoping to completely reshape your brows, you will need to wait a little longer. According to Bailey, after eight weeks, hair follicles will show and you’ll have a fully regrown brow.

Reduce redness and acne.
Redness and even minor breakouts are completely normal in the days following an eyebrow appointment. If you have sensitive skin prone to redness, make sure your salon uses an oil or other soothing solution before and after the hair removal process. You should also apply aloe to the brow area once you get home.

If you notice acne emerging after a wax, Bailey suggests waiting 48 hours before treating it. After that 48 hours, spot treat the acne with a gentle solution to reduce redness and swelling, avoiding products containing alcohol.

Tweeze with caution.
“The more you tweeze between appointments, the more you’re taking that cycle of hair growth and disrupting it, and you won’t get a clean wax at your next appointment,” Bailey said. He suggests tweezing only the hairs that fall significantly above or below your ideal brow shape.

No tweezers.
Bailey suggests skipping the tweezers to maintain your brow artists’ hard work. Instead, try hiding and enhancing. Hide any overgrowth by applying first a primer and next a concealer, dabbing each over the hair with your ring finger. Then, enhance your brow shape with a brow filler.EYE-DESIGN,MICROBLADING,EYEBROWS,BROWS,LASH,PERMANENT-MAKEUP 2

Choose the right product for your brows.
The key to keeping your brows looking their best between appointments is the right product. Pencils are best for creating precise lines and shapes. Bailey suggests a brow kit, containing a wax and powder, for salvaging a waxing gone wrong. For unruly brows, use a gel to control the shape and redirect hairs. A fiber gel, Bailey says, is good for any type of brow, because it clings to brow hairs to create a natural looking volume and shape.

Put down the scissors.
Though trimming your brows seems like a quick fix, Bailey says to leave any scissor work to the pros. “If you trim your brows too short you can get holes and you can’t really trim them again or comb them over, and it takes a while of the hair to get length on a brow.” For more information on eyebrow shaping, [Click Here].

Eyebrow Tattooing: An Evolving Trend

ZOE-MILAN-STUDIOS, MICROBLADING, EYEBROWS, EYEBROW-MAKEUP, PERMANENT-MAKEUP, ZOE-MILAN, ZOE-GILLESPIE,4Eyebrows, like every other fashion trend, change with time. In the 90s, thin was in. But, today, thick, bold brows, like those seen on Kim Kardashian and Angelina Jolie, are all the rage.

People all around the world are trying to achieve shapely, sculpted brows. But how do they do it? Filling your brows in daily with gels and powders is one tedious, time consuming option. But, more permanent options are out there. One permanent option, is eyebrow tattooing. Eyebrow feathering or micropigmentation is a semi-permanent procedure that has only recently made an appearance in the beauty world. Brow extensions, similar to eyelash extensions are another semi-permanent option.

Shasta Tokar is a certified cosmetic tattooist, who calls those working in her field “glorified makeup artists.” Tokar reportedly performs as many as 10 brow feathering procedures a week, and says there are plenty of clients willing to spend hundreds of dollars to have their eyebrows enhanced through cosmetic tattooing. While Tokar performs the procedure on clients who suffer from cancer, alopecia, and other conditions that induce hair loss, many of her clients get the procedure for convenience sake.

According to Tokar, methods of eyebrow tattooing and the stigma around the procedure have changed dramatically over the last decade. The semi-permanent nature of eyebrow feathering or pigmentation is what is drawing modern clients in to have their brows enhanced. Unlike permanent makeup techniques of the past, eyebrow feathering lasts anywhere between one and three years, so those who pay for the procedure can keep up with changing brow trends should they desire.

Tokar advises those interested in eyebrow feathering or micropigmentation to shop around before choosing one tattooist or salon. Ask to see an artist’s portfolio before going through with the procedure and read reviews if they are available online. The process should not be painful, and a certified, trusted artist will be able to provide a pain-free experience to his or her clients.

Cosmetic tattooing offers many more possibilities than brow enhancement. Tokar also serves clients wanting permanent lip color, eyeliner, beauty marks, and other unusual requests. Tokar said, “I did freckles on my best friend. There’s absolutely nothing on her face, her skin is so beautiful, it’s just so perfect. It’s one of those things if you don’t have it you want it.” For more information regarding eyebrow trends, [Click Here].

Create the Perfect Brow Look with New Beauty Trends

ZOE-MILAN-STUDIOS, MICROBLADING, EYEBROWS, EYEBROW-MAKEUP, PERMANENT-MAKEUP, ZOE-MILAN, ZOE-GILLESPIEThe average woman reportedly spends up to seven minutes a day on her eyebrows. Lately, eyebrows have become the focal point of the face. With so many products and treatment options available, it is important to find the option that works best for your brows and your lifestyle.

Threading isn’t necessarily a new trend, but it’s definitely a grooming method worth trying. To thread your eyebrows, the therapist uses a long piece of thread to remove unwanted hairs. Though a thread might sound less precise than tweezers or wax, it is actually very effective at removing even very small hairs. The service tends to cost around the same as waxing, and many find they experience less discomfort from threading than from waxing.

At Home Tinting
Eylure Permanent recently released a do-it-yourself eyebrow tinting kit. The easy to use kit comes in two shades, dark brown and medium brown; coloring can be adjusted depending on how much time you let the tint set. Results last three to five weeks.

Salon Superbrows
For a bold brow look, try the new Lola Brows by Lash Perfect. A salon therapist will apply tiny strokes of colored gel into the gaps between your natural brow hairs. The gel comes in six different shades, and the application process takes about 40 minutes. After the initial application, you should have your brows touched up every three weeks.

Brow Enhancing Serums
A team of testers from Mirror UK tried out three different eyebrow enhancing serums: RapidBrow Eyebrow Enhancing Serum, Shavata Brow Strengthener, and Talika Eyebrow Lipcoils Expert. Shavata’s Brow Strengthener, the cheapest of the bunch, got the best reviews. The tester reported that her brows appeared darker and fuller after continued use. The other two serums produced minimal results.

Other brow grooming methods are out there, but this list provides some temporary, simple, and relatively affordable options. The Mirror UK team also recapped the best celebrity brows, ranking them on a ten-point scale.

Kate Middleton received a 7/10 for her natural, but modern brows. Replicate Kate’s look by using a light brow gel to fill in sparse areas. Nigella Lawson was awarded an 8/10 for her strong brows, which have been noticeably well groomed for many years. Use a bristle applicator to apply brow gel for a more pigmented look like Nigella’s. Finally, earning a 9/10 is Kim Kardashian. Kim’s eyebrows are perfectly shaped and never look straggly. Use a brown pen to make your brows pop like Kim’s.
